This past Saturday, Matt and I shared our dining room table with six amazing people, good food and drink, and the opportunity to step back for just a moment. A moment to remind us, that although our daily lives are consumed by the busyness of work and family, we are always surrounded by a tremendous group of friends.
We hosted our first supper club. An idea we came up with late last Fall as a way to get through the long winter. A group of us would meet once a month to enjoy dinner and more importantly good company. The best part being that it was to be an adult-only affair. As I sat at the table, I couldn't help but marvel at our good fortune.
I have always considered life while raising small children similar to living on an island, a very small island. One that I always welcome when bringing baby home - an environment that is safe and calm in which to introduce them to the world. But once we are out of those first hazy months we suddenly feel the need to reconnect, and sharing a simple meal with friends is the perfect backdrop.
Thank you, supper club, for lifting our spirits. Life feels lighter in the company of friends.
